FieldScan in San Diego

San Diego is FieldScan's home market and the densest concentration of our work. The building stock here is unusually varied for a single city: the historic masonry of the Gaslamp Quarter and Sherman Heights, the dense modern healthcare and research campuses around Hillcrest and La Jolla's biotech corridor, the Navy and maritime infrastructure along the bay, and a continuous flow of tenant improvements downtown. Each of those building types asks something different of a scanning crew — historic structures need careful documentation for permit and preservation review, healthcare and lab space demands tight MEP coordination, and active downtown TI work means scanning around occupied, operating businesses. Permitting and as-built requirements run through the City of San Diego Development Services Department, with coastal projects in La Jolla and Pacific Beach also subject to California Coastal Commission considerations. Because this is our base, mobilization is fast and we know the local AHJ expectations rather than learning them on your project. The full FieldScan service range — laser scanning, scan-to-BIM, drone surveying, and PLS-stamped land surveying — is available here, frequently combined on a single site.

FieldScan in San Diego

San Diego is FieldScan’s home base, and it shows in how fast we move and how well we know the local building landscape. From the historic masonry of the Gaslamp Quarter to the research campuses of La Jolla and the continuous tenant-improvement work downtown, this is the market our crews work in week after week.

What we do across the city

The full FieldScan range is available in San Diego, and projects here often combine several services on one site:

  • 3D laser scanning for as-built capture of interiors, historic structures, and complex facilities
  • Scan-to-BIM converting that capture into Revit models for design and coordination
  • Drone surveying for sites, rooftops, and construction progress, with LAANC clearance handled in advance
  • Land surveying through our licensed California PLS partner for boundary, ALTA, and topographic work
  • Facility document digitization and IDA for owners managing large or aging building portfolios

Knowing the local ground

Working in San Diego well means more than owning a scanner. Historic districts need documentation prepared with preservation review in mind. Healthcare and lab space demands tight MEP coordination. Coastal projects in La Jolla and Pacific Beach can trigger California Coastal Commission considerations on top of standard City of San Diego Development Services Department review. Because this is where we’re based, we plan for those realities up front instead of discovering them mid-project.

Fast mobilization

Being local removes the travel-day overhead that comes with projects hours away. For downtown and central San Diego work, we typically mobilize within the same week. Tell us your deadline and we’ll confirm a realistic field date.
